Accessible Housing Features & Benefits
To address the shortage of housing options for Summit County residents with A/I/DD,
Bridge21 is providing housing tailored to the cognitive and sensory needs of individuals with neurodiversities.
Beginning with housing for four individuals in one house and growing the program to accommodate up to 12 neurodivergent individuals in 2027.
Accessibility Features & Benefits
Lighting:
- Use of natural light where possible to ensure it’s not too bright or glaring.
- Avoid flickering lights and use consistent illumination to reduce sensory overload
- Indirect and dimmable lighting where appropriate
- Window treatments to limit glare as needed
Acoustics:
- Minimized noise by avoiding hard materials and using sound-absorbing materials
- Quiet appliances
- Quiet zones for relaxation
- Use of soft-close cupboards, drawers, and toilet lids.
- Limit HVAC noise with a variable speed blower and insulated panel
Flooring and Surfaces:
- Non-reflective flooring and surfaces to reduce glare
- Textured surfaces and visual contrast to aid balance and spatial awareness
- Easy to clean surfaces
- Durable surfaces
Furnishings, Décor and Signage:
- Use of muted colors
- Furniture with soft edges
- Décor minimizes visual clutter to a minimum
- Use of clear signage with simple symbols and text
Air Quality:
- Provide low VOC and SVOC finishes and furnishings
- Provide fragrance-free products in common areas
- HVAC high-efficiency filters
- Consider HEPA filter vacuum

- Voice Assistants to answer questions and connect to smart devices

Bridge21 houses will also provide supportive services to its residents to support their independence, provide optional activities, and foster community and friendships.
